Accueil très sympathique, service parfait, joli décor, ambiance feutrée et très bons vins. La cuisine est en revanche assez banale, sans être mauvaise non plus. Une très bonne adresse pour une pause en redescendant du château.

Staff at this resto thinks that serving spoilt food is OK.
I ordered white fish with vegetables and expected a delicious meal, but had to leave half of it on the plate. I've been in France for 2 years now and these were the worst haricots verts I've ever tried, including student canteens. They were of strange pale color, soft and tasted weird. Potato tasted as if it was defrosted and frosted again, several times. I pointed this out to a waiter. Their senior came up to us and admitted that the chef tried haricots and indeed they were bad, potato was cooked several hours ago and they can't do anything to fix the situation. It seemed like this kind of quality is normal at A la pause Rabelaisienne.

On our two day visit to Chinon, had a couple of drinks here the first night, then coffee the following morning. After a day seeing the lovely sights of Chinon, had a couple more drinks late afternoon and booked a table for dinner as found staff very pleasant. But, being level headed fair people, can't justify 18 Euros for 5 thin slices of what looked like at best, half a portion of duck breast. One of my favourite dishes.
We may be tourist but not stupid. Shame on you.

Probably the better end of the cafes in the main square/plaza. Not much to look at visually, the wine selection is made up a good variety of local AOC and the food is decent but mid to high for a cafe.

Personnel très agréable, repas traditionnel très bien réalisé. Tout en simplicité cette brasserie est bien meilleure que certains restaurant "m'as-tu-vu".
