Meh. I had to use this station to get to Montmartre but if you're unfamiliar with Paris, try to use another station even if it's out of the way. Didn't see anything more alarming than what I saw while living in NY's LES in the 90s and while living in Venice Beach for the past 15 years.

Avoid this metro station guys. For your own good. Subsaharian Africans and North African magrebins (arabs) are hanging around trying to sell drugs and cheat.

Awful place full of wack cigarettes street dealers. Mostly filthy men occupying the streets around dont really know what they are doing, gambling? Dealing?... Beware of pickpockets!!! Although that's a major issue everywhere in Paris!

This place gets such a bad reputation but it really isn't that bad. Yes it is dominated by males mostly of North African origin but I can say as an English female travelling alone they never bother me in the slightest. This place isn't the romanticized and white-washed Paris that tourists flock to see, rather it is real Paris and a legacy of colonialism and housing policies that encourage segregation.

Very unsafe place. If at the moment my girlfriend and I got out of the station there weren't like a 100 policemen outside, I think we would have been robbed. Many bad guys wandering that area. If you're going to Sacre Coeur it's better to go from the Anvers station.

Solo female wandered around in broad daylight and got lost. Ended up in this area.. got harrased by several men yelling Japon, Japon ( lol, I am asian but not Japanese) and got followed by this man for a about 7 minutes until he lost me in the crowd.

However, as a cultural side-note, just in case you do find yourself there, there will be lots of young men repeating the words "Marlboro bled" over and over again. This simply means that they have cheap, poor quality, contraband cigarettes from North Africa (what they refer to as the "bled") to sell. I would not advise buying them.

I do not appreciate this station. Because of the incredibly high amount of crime here! It's just pains me to say that this is the most discusting part of Paris.

Not a desirable metro station for nervous people. Do not try to look like a visitor to Paris. Walk confidently and do not engage. The surrounding area can be a scary place at night so walk briskly. As in all of Paris, keep valuables tucked away.

This metro station is an absolute nightmare - there are dozens of people selling junk all over the place blocking the way, and there is no place left to walk. It's unsafe and I advise avoiding this station if possible.

The movie TAKEN was playing in my head as I scurried away.
