The campsite is located on an island with stunning views of Amboise town and the castle. You can walk into town in 5 minutes with close access to shops, bars and restaurants.

great location, quite huge and impersonal with too few toilets and showers for the amount of people, but really appreciated it is walking distance from such a beautiful and lively village.

We had a great time at this campsite and recommend it to anyone stopping in Amboise.

little crown in augoust.

The lady at reception was very lovely and helpful. The facilities are spacious and clean. The campsite itsrkf is big but very quiet. We paid 13€ per night which is a bargain for the area and the view.

This is a really lovely, big municipal site with all the essential facilities. It is accessible only to campers with their own code to open the gates. The campsite is situated on a river island, fenced all the way round, bordered on one side by a pathway along the riverbank and on the other by a large public park. Local hot air balloon companies use the park to take off. At the end of the island is a outdoor fitness area and small mountain bike track. There is a games tent on site with a table tennis table. Free Wi-Fi is available though coverage is patchy at best!
The large pitches are more or less separated into areas for large tents, touring tents and motor homes, some with no shade. It can get very hot here! There are no hedges between pitches - we like the open plan feel but it may not suit everyone. Pathways throughout the site are a mix of tarmac for the motorhomes and gravel for the rest of the site.
There are two well appointed super-clean sanitary blocks and another bank of toilets, as well as a motorhome service point. The blocs sanitaires contain toilets, urinals, wash cubicles and good showers, laundry and washing up facilities.
The provisions for disabled campers are excellent, with four wheelchair accessible showers, and a number of accessible toilets and washrooms.
You won't see any staff around the campsite (other than the army of toilet cleaners!) but the reception people are lovely and very helpful. There is a swimming pool next door, with reduced rates for campers (the French "no shorts" law applies as you'd expect, and the campsite reception sells swimming trunks for those who forget) and a mini golf course too. The Bar Brasserie de l'Ile d'Or is adjacent to the reception and serves delicious food and its own beer. Bread is available from here each morning.
Amboise is a short walk away just over the bridge and has a variety of small shops (including a well stocked convenience style Carre Four with decent opening hours) and some lovely restaurants. There is a typical French market on the quayside on Sunday mornings. Larger supermarkets are a short drive away (Aldi, Intermarche and a huge E Leclerc.)
Amboise and the surrounding area is beautiful and this campsite is a great base from which to explore the region.

As previous reviews have stated this is a large site, very convenient for Amboise. We arrived mid morning to a very friendly and helpful reception. Although allocated a pitch we were told to change it if we wished and did so to be away from other vans and trees. We told reception and she appeared to change our details. Unfortunately, mid evening a French van arrived and after driving round the site several times on his mobile phone, with little regard for pedestrians he decided to join us on our pitch. There were lots of unoccupied pitches, including the ones on either side of us. We decided that our language skills were not up to an argument and that for some reason he felt he had to make a point rather than try to speak to us. This was the only unpleasant behaviour we encountered in several weeks away. I understand that mistakes are made and that the campsite cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of their customers but perhaps they could do a check of the site after reception closes?

Brilliant location. Well maintained site with clean facilities. Slightly open and unimaginative pitches.

Great location, easy walk to town. Island is nice to walk around. Really nice staff. However the santiary block really could do with a good scrub instead of a hose down. No bins anywhere. Hair still on floor of showers the next day. Fly infestation which was not dealt with. Suggest getting some hooks in showers or toilets. Pitches are all open, which makes the place sociable but not private.

We stayed 2 nights at this campsite in June. Reception gave us a numbered pitch supposedly next to one we were reserving for our friends due the next day. We soon discovered these pitches were occupied and the comment from the occupant was ' we were told we could go where we liked'. As he was part of a group - all adjacent to each other- we didn't make a fuss but asked reception for two more pitches. We were cooking our evening meal when a camper van drove up beside us and an irate man told us we were in his place and refused to believe us when we said it had been allocated to us. He was aggressive and rude. We refused to move until later on that evening another camper arrived saying, once again, we were on his pitch. This time we went to reception and were told we had to move. The following day our friends arrived and set up on the pitch next to us - within half an hour another van arrived to claim their pitch! Once again an aggressive verbal attack on our friends but, after going back to reception, the irate man was given another pitch and our friends stayed, This upsetting set of events together with incompetent and unapologetic staff, three separate and different codes to punch in to lift the barrier which didn't work, ( meaning trips to reception each time,) decided us to move on the next day as soon as we could.

Great base to explore Amboise and the surrounding towns in the Loire region!

I cannot agree with other reviews about the facilities. The welcome we received was friendly and efficient. However the barrier code wouldn't open the barrier or the pedestrian gate!! When we eventually got onto our pitch we discovered the facilities block near us was closed and we had to walk halfway down the site to use the showers which I can only describe as revolting. They smelt like a sewer and we're filthy!! I suggest whoever is in charge of the site visits the municipal site in Chinon to see how to do it properly. The problem with the barriers and gate was on going and ended up with the gate being left open. We also had no water tap near us. All in all we were not happy with the facilities at all and won't return unless they're brought up to acceptable standards.

Nice Campground on an Island in the middle of the Loire. It is a short walk across the bridge to the City and Chateau.
