When you travel to a foreign country, you expect the accommodations to simply be a place to sleep and get refreshed. What we found was the hospitality extended by Marcel and Katarina to all their guests (including us) created an atmosphere where the morning and evening mealtimes at the La Closerie became an anticipated *part* of the stay. The rooms are great, the food is exceptional, the location is central to so much within a hour's drive, and Marcel & Katarina take great strides to make you feel like family and not just a guest. When you're looking for you stay to be an experience and not just a room, definitely consider La Closerie.

La Closerie St Martin is indeed a real gem. It is situated in a lovely hamlet just a few minutes drive from the town of Chinon and within easy reach of many chateaux and vineyards in this beautiful part of the Loire Valley. La Closerie is situated behind a lovely walled exterior behind which is a pretty courtyard with a fountain and tables and chairs at which to enjoy a relaxing drink.
The rooms are set around the courtyard.The rooms themselves are all beautifully designed, well equipped, very clean and comfortable. We have stayed many times at this wonderful B&B and have stayed in four of the five rooms. All are of a very high standard. Breakfast is excellent and includes many home made preserves and cake.
Dinner is optional but we would highly recommended you try it. Before dinner guests are invited into the candlelit barrelled wine cellar for an aperitif. If you are lucky you may even see a couple of bats. Dinner is taken with other guests and the hosts and several nations all eating together, comparing their holiday experiences is fun. . Marcel and Katharina speak German, French, and English fluently, and even a bit of Spanish, and ensure that guests at dinner always feel included and will translate changing between languages if required. They do this with real ease. Katharina and Marcel are keen cooks sourcing food from the market and from local suppliers and dinner is superb. The style of food is French and Swiss and Marcel's cheese boards are a cheese lovers treat.
Katharina and Marcel are very knowledgeable about the area and are very happy to give advice and recommend places to visit according to individual tastes. They are both great people who are passionate about what they do. La Closerie is a truly stunning experience.

Highly recommend. This is a wonderful place to stay and connect with interesting travelers over great food and drink. Marcel and Katharina are amazing hosts that make you feel very welcome, can assist in planning your stay with extensive local knowledge and provide a fantastic dinner. The visit to the cellar before dinner for an aperitif is not to be missed. Of course the rooms, courtyard and lounge are all lovely.
