The tapestries alone are worth the visit. The castle is very impressive. The only negative point is that the staff ordered us out at 18.15 , while we expected to have stayed till the closing time at 18.30.

The castle itself is nice but the tapestry is an absolute must see. There are free guided tours. The English one we took at 11am was a great way to put the visit in context and understand what the tapestry depicts

It's a great place if you're looking for a quiet, clean, and accessible hotel near the town's attractions. Also, the front desk agent spoke English which was highly appreciated.

The tapestry is really nice, well preserved and impressive. Traffic and parking was a little more annoying than I was expecting in a city this size off tourist season.

Great old castle . Well preserved .The walls around the castle are impressive and so is the moat. Nice gardens.

This is one of the most remarkable medieval fortified castles I've ever visited. The gardens are beautifully & artistically designed; the esplanade offers great 360° views of Angers & its surroundings. The interiors of the castle are historically decorated and clearly illustrated if one opts for the self guided tour. Guided tours in small groups are available at different times of the day. This site is truly worth the visit ❤

Nice castle for an afternoon and evening. You may enjoy the castle first and then the beautiful view of the river Maine in the evening. There are restaurants right infront of the castle entrance.

I went to Chateau d'Angers in 2014 summer.
There happened to be some interesting installation art with colorful buckets.
Waking inside the beautiful castle and garden was a totally wonderful experience.

Beautiful place, worth the entry fee just for the views

Loved this place! Huge beautiful castle and gardens inside (flowers, vegetables, aromatic herbs). We went for a family trip on a gorgeous sunny day. The view from the top is breathtaking, the Apocalypse Tapestries are in great shape. Nice historic place to visit alone or with friends and family. Not great for strollers or wheelchair access though.

Impressive to see but the interior is really unremarkable

The gardens are nice but there are far more spectacular ones elsewhere. The castle itself was modified to function with cannons and maybe because of that the ramparts are a bit dull, lacking imposing crenelations and machiculations and feeling altogether too modern and well-maintained. The castle is quite stark and functional, and on the whole maybe *too* prestine. The surroundings aren't all too pretty. All in all it's not much of a looker as far as medieval castles go, and it also won't take long to walk through.

A Unique Kind of Castles (at least for me)
We didn't have a specific plan in Angers so we toured randomly, and reached this Castle. Its structure that seems like a well protected area, in addition to the space between the walls and the street are unique for me and it is nice how it is still in a very good condition, you can spend easily 2 hours there.
And they also have inside the largest Apocalypse Tapestry in the world which was amazing and unexpected.
I recommend everyone that passes in Angers to pass by this Castle.

Nice, well maintained chateau. Can visit if you have much to do on a weekend. Doesn't take more than one hour.
