The views are amazing and the staff were incredibly friendly. We showed up without much time before they closed and they still permitted us and gave us a chance to see a few things that were about to close. You can go up to the very top of the towers and to the edge of many of the ramparts. It was a great visit and, if you speak French, there were a lot of fun kid-friendly installments. Great boutique and very clean layout. 10/10 would recommend.

We spent a wonderful 4hrs in this place. 8€50 to get in including a tour - ours was in English and only had 4 Brits on it so it was like a personal tour. The guide (Isobel) was brill, informative, enthusiastic - she knew her stuff but made it good fun too. Lots to see, you can get involved in the practical firing of the trebuchon mock-ups or laze away under a shady tree in one of the many deck-chairs dotted around. The cafe serves a good selection of snack-type foods and was reasonably priced. Great way to spend a day!

The castle is gorgeous and the explanation of the castle is clear and detailed. Worth visiting!

A Disgrace. My wife, who was born nearby, and I have been visiting the Chateau de Chinon since 1967. In December, 2014, I went to the chateau with our daughters and three friends, expecting great things after the massive renovation of the chateau. Instead we found bare rooms, with occasional media screens and short films so pathetic that we laughed at them. Those who go searching for the magic of Henry II or Joan of Arc will come away completely disappointed. We asked ourselves, are those responsible ignorant or lazy? This is a disgraceful presentation of a great French historical monument. My wife and I are both French citizens and we know our country can do better than this.

Nice castle but not the best in the Loire valley

Interesting as a break from classic castle visits. This military fortress actually saw a lot of war and, as a consequence, there isn't much left standing. Still, a great place for kids.

Impressive piece of history, well maintained, amazing view.
We visited during 2017 Attack Theme, which provided some interactive information.
Facilities were convinient and organized. English well supported.

Over restored with very few articles or history of interest. Particularly poor when compared to the chateaux in the region, though this is a castle/fortress with a longer history, very little of this is apparent from the exhibits.

Brilliant. The guide books and interactive boards together with the videos in the Royal rooms really bring the history of this Castle to life, from Henry II to Richard the Lionheart and King John through to Joan of Arc. The deck chairs on the lawns, mean you can enjoy the sun, recharge your batteries before looking at the next bit. The tea rooms have lots of outdoor space and are very reasonable.

Excellent castle with lots for younger children to see and do. The tablet guide was definitely worth the extra €3
