Lyon main train station left a lot to be desired. From the exterior it looks very spacious and welcoming but as soon as you enter you feel congested. The stairs to reach the platform are oddly placed and shows a poor use of space. There are not many shops around and mostly for eating and drinking. There is usually a big queue in all the shops. No souvenirs shop around. Waiting area look damp and unventilated. There are no automatic lockers for luggage. The left luggage facility is slow and expensive. On a Sunday, everything outside the main station is closed, so you are stuck there.

This is a train station, and functions in all the normal capacities of one. There are several stores and restaurants inside, and the ticket office has a number ticket system, and benches. There is free Wi-Fi for 20 minutes. Close to many hotels and a mall.

This place gets the job done...when the French aren't on strike. Don't expect this to be anywhere near the level of our Japanese friends across the Pacific. The Japanese average something like 30 minutes of late time a year for all of their trains...the French can eclipse that with one train in a day.

I not really understand the luggage locker conception at the station. The station open 24 hours 7 days/week. Why the luggage locker close between 11 pm and 6:15 am. No information in the locker ticket at all or big sign we keep close between this time. It is quite annoying. I just missed my midnight bus, because they didn't inform properly...

On 8 Oct 2016, the announcement on departure platform for our trip from Lyon to Paris was about less than 10 minutes before departure time (normally 20 minutes). Then all passengers of both inbound and outbound stuck on the stairs to and from platform A with heavy baggages. Passengers to go up to platform A were squeezed from 8-10 queue lines to 2 lines on the stairs leaving one line for inbound passengers to come down. I was the last person able to enter the train with many behind who missed that train. Imagine how angry they were.

A good place to take a train to all over France and Europe, you can find some coffee shops, magazine shops, you can even do your shopping at la Fnac (cd's Dvd's...) And you can eat a good baguette "chez Paul"

Perhaps the decision makers could just do a tour in Asia n open their eyes to how the world has move on. Most train stations in France remind u of 3rd world countries. Depressing lighting, hard chairs, lack of the knowledge that to win tourism dollar, they need to use more English signs and announcements.

Nice to hv wifi something French still need to realise that d world's tourist need wifi but workable ones, not those that keep dropping.

Easy to get around, straightforward signage. Plenty of little shops and places to eat.

Bien placée, la gare de Lyon est juste à côté des trams T1, T3, T4, metro, et bus. La sécurité est absente, mais c'est le cas dans la plupart des gares de France ! Toilettes payantes, mais accueil SNCF bien organisé et fourni.

Overall a not so nice station for an otherwise great city.

You can get some decent quality food items at Paul while you are waiting.

Overcrowded train station.
Luckily, lots of commerce nearby.

I'd still take a train...most efficient way to travel and cheap.

All in all, I hv seen worse but this deserve 3 stars.

This station was a pleasure to visit. and easy to navigate. They should look at doing more announcements in English to cater for those tourist but still it was clean, efficient and the trains leave exactly on time.
