The first impressions of Hotel Astrid were very good as we arrived late in the evening. It was brightly lit up on the outside and gave the impression of an up-spec 4 star hotel. It was expected to be so as the rates were among the high end in Lourdes. Comparatively, the entrance lounge area seemed sparse, but comfortable enough. It was close to 11.00pm, but we had not had dinner enroute in the TGV and asked the gentleman at the night reception whether he could organise some quick simple food from the restaurant and the answer was "no". When we asked where we could get some food, outside, the answer was still negative. The room allocated to us was large for a triple (by standards in the region) but the bathroom was for disabled persons with no shower screen and a few other convenient accessories missing and when we asked for a room change, again the answer was a negative from the gentleman in the reception. After the first one of us showered, the entire bathroom floor was flooded and then the water started seeping into the bedroom. By the time, the remaining two of us showered, we had to use-up all the availble towels to soak up the water on the floor to stop it from flooding the bedroom. After that initial exitement, albeit a very comfortable sleep in the clean & comfortable large beds we decided to send an e-mail message to the reservations officer of the hotel, 'Magali', a complaint about the room. This situation changed dramatically, the next morning when 'Severine', the front office manager intercepted the e-mail complaint and she responded very positively and offered us two separate rooms that were well appointed at no extra cost. Severine and Magali went out of their way to ensure that all our needs were met in the hotel. A pity, we did not visit the restaurant as we had all our meals outside in the local restaurants, and there's plenty of very good ones if you look around and ask the locals, and indeed some restaurants such as 'Le Magret' are very exotic if not cheap. Therefore, we cannot comment about the food in Astrid, but we did note that the prices in the menu card were not one of the cheapest, but cannot verify. To Astrid's credit, the rooms were reasonably sized , very clean and comfortable. The general ambience and temperature in the rooms were very good. The staff we came across (becuase we did not have any meals in the hotel we had little dealings with other staff) especially Severine & Magali were delightfully warm, hospitable & polite which we found, was the highest scoring point for Hotel Astrid. And, of course, close proximity to the sanctuary and souvenir shops make it more favorable to pilgrims who like to attend morning mass and other religious observances all hours of the day ( and late evenings) and yet only be a hop and step away from the sanctuary. As pigrims who visit Lourdes every year, our family ( of three) decided that, notwithstanding a sudden price rice, we would return to Hotel astrid every time. A special "THANKS" once again to Severine & Magali for their professionalism, friendly & approachable disposition and polite mannerisms.

Kindness, comfort and logistically in the best place to visit the Lourdes grotto. The owner Nicola, and the kindness of between the others of Marco and Aurelie will warrant you one of the best experiences in Lourdes. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Dont arrive hungry at the hotel, late in the evening. There is no after hour room service.
