I've just come back to Ireland from a five-day canal-cruise on Le Canal Du Midi with nine other guys. Whilst we had difficulty getting a table for 10 guys in many places, the folks at La Péniche were welcoming, friendly and good humoured. We were there on the first and last nights of our sojourn. On the first night most of us ate from the Menu Terroir. The food was excellent, the star turn being the local specialty: Cassoulet de Confit de Canard. It was great value too: Eating from the Menu Terroir, having an Aperitif, copious pichets of wine, much coffee and several digestifs came out to €28 a man. Last night we went back and ate from the Menu Regional and I particularly enjoyed the Carpaccio starter. Other guys had the prawn starter and that was superb. I had Entrecote for the main course; again superb. It came with Brussels Sprouts fried with bacon (an eye-opener for me regarding the sprout, I have to say.) Ratatouille, which I'm usually quite circumspect about, was delicious. Look; if you're in the region of Homps and you're looking for excellent regional food, go to La Péniche.

Lovely location sitting by the canal. Only problem was no food. We had travelled an hour an a half and would have liked even a salad or cheese to nibble on but nothing in Homps to eat during the day !

First time in La Peniche was good....second time I got undercooked fish dish and spotty service. Decided to try other local restaurants who work for repeat business.

Service a bit leisurely, but friendly and nice Ily coffee. A good stop for a coffee.

Lovely little place by canal very friendly helpful staff food delicious. I used to cook professionally so I give it a thumbs up.
