Despite the long queue to get in, we had a great time there. The waiter was really helpful and friendly, I really liked that. The service was quick and the food decent.

As we were seated we were told that the tables were shared. These were not long tables. These were table of four kind of tables. We didn't sit alone long. Two others were elbow to elbow with us. I have sat close to others before, but this was TOO close, and you can't have a conversation with the person you're with. We left after a couple of minutes. I don't know why the matron maitre d' looked so surprised. We didn't like being treated like cattle. We wanted to enjoy our dinner.

Cons? First a long strange queue, we waited more than other people just because we weren't the right number of people. Same story: as soon as you finish eating, you have to free the table.

If you are looking for a French dining experience don't go here. The space is lovely and historical but the staff rush you through intent on clearing tables. The food arrived literal minutes after you have ordered it and tastes like they have plate after plate just sat waiting under heat lamps. The building is special but the food and experience sucks!

Very delicious! Affordable prices for quality French food. The experience of going here is great, but expect to wait to get in (groups of 2 move the fastest). The prices are very affordable, so it isn't the finest French cuisine but it is traditional and simple. Very fun! Great for students, couple's, families, etc.

We were 4 French customers. On my first time at Bouillon Chartier, here is my conclusion : Competitive price, but average food. Don't go there to experience French cuisine. Waiter extremely rude rushing you to leave or order... but I guess it's management policy. Go for a non expensive meal & drink with friends, but don't expect much more.

We followed the footsteps of other on Google Maps, arrived at irregular time to eat (5pm). There was no queue. And we ordered what others say was good 'duck'. The outcome was perfect, being in the atmosphere of the first restaurant in Paris, that served 2000 railroad workers a day, we enjoyed the duck meal and the Fois Gras.
You can skip the chocolate mousse.

Pros:
-Extremely fast service
-Delicious food and variety of French cuisine
-Nice atmosphere, with great decorations and French feel

The waiter was really bad! The food quality was decent and the prices are small for Paris but they are in line with overall quality. There is a small queue at the entrance but if you are alone or in a small group someone will take you and you can skip the line. Nothing special, just really crowded and really loud. I could recommend better Montparnasse 1900. Enjoy!

Excellent stop for lunch or dinner. The food & service is very good. The ambience is superb.
You probably will be seated with or joined by other diners, but fear not... it just France
Yes... they write your order on the table cloth as well as figure your bill... worth a visit
We will return

Really good cheap price for high quality food. We had a three course meal and a bottle of wine and each paid €25. Wine was great (well all French wine is pretty great...) mains were amazing (loved the duck confit) and desserts were superb! Waiters are lovely and very helpful and there is fantastic ambience here. Would love to come back!

Overall, I would suggest still going there but don't expect a quaint French bistro or cafe.

I love coming here. But the customer service varies with each waiter. I have had some amazing waiters and I left a good tip( tipping is not necessary). I have fallen on some really horrible and Rude waiters here. Some will complain if you ask for water or if you don't have your order ready in two minutes. If you are here at rush hour, don't expect the most friendly service. They are rushing around trying to get you in and out quickly . The duck and potatoes are my fave and the decor is simple, old and elegant. Don't come here if your looking for a long and relaxing lunch or dinner. They are NOT THE typical french restaurant, when it comes to taking your time and enjoying your meal. Again it's not always this way, just informing those that may get offended easily.

Very fun, well known restaurant/cafe. DO NOT go during the weekend! During the week only. Be prepared for a wait, small groups won't take long.

Cons:
-DOES NOT PROVIDE A LOUNGING EXPERIENCE! (If this is fine with you, then seek it out)
-More of an American restaurant experience because of the hectic and loud atmosphere

Very good place, good balance between traditional and touristy. Beware that you might be seated and the same table and in very close quarters with other patrons. Waiters are pretty good, so is the sangria and the escargot (good place to try it for the first time). Cons are that it gets pretty crowded, and so besides being cramped the service also takes a hit. Just time it right and don't go during high volume times. Prices are super ultra reasonable, you can get a full course meal for one for around 20 euros. Place also looks super classical French on the inside, menus are in both French and English.
Food is good quality, as good as you can get for the price.
Overall highly recommended, good place to try out light French food as a tourist.

Best time in Paris here..we had waiter number 46. He worked super fast, was impatient eccentric, funny and spoke so fast that you couldn't understand him. But your not supposed to, the food is all good just try something and you'll enjoy it. Its all an act and performance and he's doing it on purpose, and our waiter at least loved his job as we talked to him after our meal when things quietened down... they are to serve you food not tell you what to eat. If your not ready to order he'll just leave straight away and come back later in a few minutes and leave again if your not ready. But really after waiting in line for 40 minutes you should be prepared. It's not fine dining, it's a pub meal with cheap good quality food. The meat was perfectly cooked too. We enjoyed the atmosphere, watching the waiters work, the food and the company of the couple who sat right next to us. It can depend on the waiter you have but in the worst case you'll enjoy the food in a unique institution in Paris.
