Absolutely amazing object! You can ride fully functioning train, see moving gun turrets, working power supplies, signals, lifts... Cold, long underground tunnels make a nice thrill and great collection of military vehicles, weaponry, items, documents could be seen. Also fantastic and cheerful staff, full of enthusiasm and with deep knowledge about their heritage is great and helpful. 2,5 hour of visiting Hackenberg is worth far more than (still, best spent ever!) 10 euro :) I suggest tips :)

Absolutely amazing place. The train ride really conveys the sheer scale of these fortifications. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. The static displays of weaponry, equipment and vehicles were great and seeing the still-working cannon raise up and rotate was incredible.

Amazing history. This place truly takes you back in time. Our guide was exceptionally enthusiastic and had alot of information. At times it feels like the tunnels go on forever, because they actually do. Imagen the life a solider had living in this place.

We were at Ouvrage du Hackenberg last year at our summerholiday.
The tour was great and really instructive, the tourguide really knew where he was talking about. His story was really imressive and its great to see that they still maintain this old and historical monument!

Fascinating tour but a bit long and VERY cold...absolutely bring a sweater, even in the summer. A can't miss for WWII buffs or anyone with three hours to spare in the area. You get to ride an underground train. Check the schedule of tours before you drive out there because there is nothing to see if you can't go inside n the tour.

2.5h tour where you can discover a part of the underground fortification. Wonderful demonstration of the operation of the turrets and the howitzers

This fortress is really amazing. All mechanical equpments are still working. Guide could be in English language.

Nice guides, interesting place. It is cold so one needs to dress up there (only 12 degrees in the tunnels). The only downside is lack of a good restaurant nearby that would actually be open on off-days.

The largest fort in the Maginot line and a great display of the technology at the time. The people who run this place are seriously great, kudos to them for giving such great tours and keeping the place in working order. They have turrets that still lift above ground and rotate as they did when the fort was first built. The fort was also a demonstrator/prototype as it was the first of the Maginot line forts, as a result it is hugely over-engineered. It's definitely worth a visit if you are into history, the Navy even (very similar structure to submarines and navy boats), or just want to learn about the history of conflicts between France and Germany in general.
