Nice place to visit. Have lunch at Cafe de France in Rouffignac, and then visit the cave. Great for people with reduced mobility as a small electric train moves you through the cave. Wear a jacket as the temperature is constantly cool.

Fantastic, well preserved cave art in Dordogne.

FIRST! BRING A JACKET!!! it is super SUPER cold in here. Even if it is 100 degrees F outside you will need a jacket. That said...out of all the caves we visited in this area this is the one that I remember most. So amazing to thing that the people who drew the images SAW them and spent the time and energy to create them.

One of the few caves with ancient art....nice mine railway underground. Dress warmly.

We enjoyed the caves and seeing the drawings , the tour by train is a good idea however I really felt the the guide was biased towards the French visitors and that the electronic guide gave us information but audio would have been great. It is a shame that you can,t see more, totally understand the need to protect the site . It would be good if some of the paintings we couldn't see were replicated to be viewed elsewhere at the site .

Really interesting, slightly spine-chilling experience refreshingly free from garish illuminations and hype. You're taken deep into the heart of the caves on a small wooden train to see cave art and marks left by bears (as well as 16th century graffiti artists!). Be sure to wrap up warm as it's quite chilly.

The electric train is an amazing and fun way to discover one of the rare prehistoric caves with paintings open to the public. The monochromatic representations are easily spotted and very intriguing...
