This August signalled our return to the wonderful St Samson Gites, a little gem of a holiday destination not far from Pontivy in Brittany. If you are looking for a quiet, rural, peaceful place to get away from it all, then this is a great place to go. With a family consisting of a husband, wife, two young teenagers, a baby and two hounds, this is a perfect location for us, staying in an authentic rural cottage (last year in the smaller 'Dairy' and this year we stayed in the 'Cottage' - due to the addition to the family and the extra space required - Cot bed, baby bath and changing mat all provided) boardering a farm and a canal. We enjoyed both Gites especially the Cottage as it is more spacious than the Dairy and catches the sun slightly more due to its position on the property. Charles and Kath are wonderful hosts, leaving you alone to enjoy your break, but always on hand to help and give great advice as what to visit and where to go and share their tasty home grown produce. Although seemingly in the middle of nowhere, the Gites are only a short drive away from two supermarkets, a boulangerie and the towns of Neuillac and Pontivy. The Canal is a delight to walk/run/cycle and is within 5 min walk of the Gite. Also great sights are close by via a car drive, ranging from the nearby lake and dam of Lac Guerladan to the 'Disney' like Castle of Josselin. The pool is great with many hours spent there (though never enough) plus many hours were also spent playing Table Tennis and Petanc. We also enjoyed the board games on offer which brought many of our evenings to an hysterical end. A lovely gem of a place indeed. We will certainly be returning!

We happened upon this gem of a place following a last minute decision to get away for a week in July 2017. A week of relaxation is what we wanted, and The Dairy provided the perfect place for that to happen. There were just two of us but there was plenty of room to accommodate 4, it was immaculate and had everything we needed to make us feel at home. Our hosts Kath and Charles were very welcoming. We had arrived in the area earlier than expected but it was no problem to check in earlier....it was a very hot day and the two of us just wanted to float in the pool. We also enjoyed the fresh produce that would appear on the garden table. We had taken bikes and enjoyed cycling along the canal and exploring villages along the way. The lake is only a few minutes drive with many restaurants along the waters edge, and many 'beaches' with water sports on offer. We would very much love to return, although time is a little tight on that as we are due to complete on the purchase of our own little piece of Morbihan (just 10 mins down the road) at the end of October.

Our family have spent the last two Easter breaks at St Samson Gites, firstly in The Stables, then in 2014 in The Cottage. Both properties were lovely.

The Gites are set in a beautiful location, a rural feel with villages and towns still close enough. With lots of space for our children to play within the grounds and stunning walks to the canal only a minute away. Placed in the centre of Brittany, this is a great location to travel from, with North or South coast under an hour away. There are plenty of day trips, also within an hour drive, to Loudeac, Pont Scorrf Zoo, Le Parc de Jeux P'tit Délire, Carnac, Auray, Port De St Goustan, Pontivy, Vannes.....

Kath and Charles are the perfect hosts, happy to advise, but not intrusive. We were really made to feel at home, even joining in with their family Easter egg hunt this year.

I fully recommend St Samson Gites.

Mr Rowe seems to be displeased with The Dairy. We cannot understand why .This year alone we have had no less than 5 return bookings, which should speak for themselves. They left very early am . The gite was left in a deplorable condition .We thus , rightfully , deducted a cleaning charge from his retained deposit. This was the reason for such a review. You need to read between the lines - dirty coffee machine - possibly missed but no comment on the cleanliness of the rest of the house..... most of his comments are purely nit picking and a matter of personal taste.

This has been the third year we have spent our summer holiday at the Dairy. We have enjoyed all our time there. The accommodation and the surroundings are lovely, rural and peaceful. Katherine and Charles have been wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. I would recommend a holiday there any time.

Pros:
The surrounding location is great for exploring on bike and the nearby lake has a range of swimming places and watersports.
The property gardens are beautiful and the pool was very much enjoyed by the children.
Cons:
The games room is very dark and dingy and you have to pay to use the pool table and the room is full of old junk and not a pleasant place for children to play.
The Dairy, which we stayed in, is very tired. The sofa and beds uncomfortable. Recognised the duvet cover from one my mum had in the 1980's!
Kitchen equipment old and badly maintained. coffee machine needed a good clean before it could be used and was partly melted.
Lighting - inadequate for the dark house.
No comfortable seating outside. old block work from old shed (?) immediate view from front of house.
Not withstanding the importance of old world atmosphere the actual specifications are not up to modern expectations with a modern day price tag.

We stayed at this delightful gite with our two labs who were made so welcome. The house (we stayed in The Dairy) was cozy and very well equipped. A number of days we only went to fetch bread and spent the days at the gite , using the pool and cooking delicious ingredients. Kath and Charles are wonderful hosts and have every right to be proud of this beautifully kept place. Highly recommended!
