This wine museum is so much more than that. Great view of Bordeaux from the top floor (where you end your day with a small glass of wine, selected from many countries). Le 7 restaurant is worth a visit (their weekday lunch special). But the museum itself is the main point of interest. Huge interactive museum with films and displays explaining wine and its history. Like the Louvre, this takes a few visits to see everything.

This is quite the striking building, located in an industrial section of town, along the river. It is very easily accessible by public transportation.
The ticket office is on the ground floor. There is also a cafe and wine shop, with access to a small open atrium in the center of the tower. There are special exhibits on the second floor. The third floor has the museum, which you tour with an audio "wand".
The museum has many different sections, to appeal to your particular interests in regards to wine. The audio can be quite wonky, and some of the exhibits are a bit cheesy. Try to walk around the entire exhibit so you can have a variety of multimedia experiences. The ticket includes a tasting.
The tasting bar is all the way upstairs, and provides panoramic views of the area, with some outdoor access (no glass outdoors). There are wines from a multitude of varietals and styles available to taste, or to purchase by the glass.
The building is the reason to visit. Consider the museum a "work in progress".

It is a pity that the top floor bar closes so early in the evening because an evening view of the city would be spectacular.

There's a lot of space dedicated to guided experiences, but not much information on what those are about. None of them were in use during my visit; I gather you would need a reservation anyway.

This is a unique contemporary realization in Bordeaux. An experience to live. Don't count on the whole luxury though. It's an accessible policy. A good surprise by the way in the context.

This place is simply amazing. Really interesting exhibition with a digital assistant that works... Most of the time. The interactive items are so well done and the wine tasting is a nice feature. The food situation is weird. Either high class or burgers. Nothing in between.

Very innovative and interactive to show the history of wine. A lot to know and learn. Also interesting.

The exhibits are markedly more experiential than might be expected, but although the interactive nature helps to personalize your visit, the reliability of the devices could be improved. Also, many of the exhibits are video interviews or animations, which is problematic for uncoordinated visitors: in theory, you walk up to the exhibit, tag your audio device, and learn about the thing; in practice, you walk up to the exhibit, which is already in use by someone else, tag your audio device, and observe half the presentation and then re-tag-in to see the first half if you want.

It's a beautiful building, but what a wasted education opportunity!

There is really a lot to see at this museum. The architectural tour was surprisingly interesting and worthwhile (I'm not easily impressed by abstract forms).

Don't understand why only has 4. For foreign visitors, the large variety of languages in wine explanations is such hard to find anywhere else in France. The knowledge is not that in details but in a very wide range, not only about Bordeaux but the world wine production. The way of display is creative. The top floor is with a fantastic view of Bordeaux. The architecture is super, such a landmark!

Interactive displays sometimes won out against actually providing useful information; sometimes more about marketing than a good museum experience. It was a very crowded day, so there weren't sufficient points for us to ping our portable devices. On the plus side, it is a very striking, and indeed beautiful, building. Some of the interactive items were quite fun and the whole experience would have been more enjoyable on less crowded day.

One of the best museums ever. It's great to learn about wines from around the world, sample some and purchase from a huge range. Innovative interactive displays to help understand wine colour, taste, smell, texture and so on. About €20 per person.

Very interesting and impressive exhibition. I love the part where you smell the perfume notes. The wine is great as you can expect from a such place. The view is gorgeous as well.

I was really impressed with this museum of wine. A lot of thought and effort has been made to make the experience interactive and engaging. Located in an area of the city that is undergoing some major rejuvenation, le cité du vin stamps its mark with its beautiful elegant design.

Unlike many others, I liked the place. It was nice to see wooden structural members carrying the outer facade. The museum was not well organized for traveling, but at the same time it gave a feeling of freedom. There were many 3D visuals, table with talking videos, things to smell and listen. Only one serving of wine (that's half serving to my standard) is not enough at all. 20 Euros entrance fee may have been a little bit lower...

I don't remember specifics but we saw or heard one or two things from staff members during our visit to suggest that the museum management is concerned that someone might think this place is a temple to inebriation vs. a celebration of culture. Perhaps that is why they close the bar early and have a strict one-glass-per-visitor policy.

It appears to be all about the delivery technology for information, rather than the information itself. This results in a supremely frustrating and mediocre learning experience.

And this was a Thursday morning outside the holiday season... I can't imaging the chaos during school holidays.

Our first impressions were not at all that positive as it is a victim of its success and its very busy. Moreover it has the problem that, despite providing the self audio guide with headphones, some screens/displays play audio directly from loudspeakers so it gets pretty confusing!

We particularly enjoyed the history of wine exhibit, and also the history of Bordeaux. And the wine tasting from the belvedere is awesome; be adventurous and try different wines, we tasted a Mexican one that was just incredible!

Living in Bordeaux I have wanted to visit since a while, but the expensive price made me wait for a price deal. The building itself is beautiful, specially when the sun is reflected in the bronze-coloured bits in the evening; but inside it is quite a feat also!

We took the self-guided audio tour. This was a mistake. There were guests were milling around confused throughout the permanent exhibit....and not a staff member in sight to advise or guide.

I am an educator and I took my family who were looking for a simple explanation of the wine-making process...it was impossible to find a logical sequence to illustrate this, or a person to help us.
