An awesome surprise awaits anyone venturing outside Narbonne, itself a huge surprise. Although it's not a living, working Abbey, like Senanque and Fecamp, it is in such perfect shape you could actually imagine monks living and working there.

the attention to details is 2nd to none, the restaurant is great value (not cheap, but the food is really good, very flavorsome) the gardens, the abbey are a dream!!

This Abbaye is an exceptionally beautiful buildings set in lovely countryside and surrounded by some fine gardens. Anyone with a love of mediaeval and baroque architecture, or gardens, will enjoy an afternoon here. The cafe was quite small, which wasn't an issue when we were there, but might be at peak weekends.

Very nice abbey and location. We paid 11 euros per adult. This seems a bit steep. Especially since you have to then pay extra to access the fruit and vegetable terrace.

We never tire of visiting Fontfroide. Beautifully restored, there are all kinds of events carried out during the year. Today we visited an annual orchid exhibition with examples from all over the world. But even when there is nothing special on, a visit is a must. The stained glass windows by Richard Burgsthal are wonderful. I advise going late afternoons as the warm light really does show off the sandstone buildings at their best.
