I booked a conference for 30 Australians at Chateau de Fére and could not wait to get back and write this glowing review. I believe this is the most special place I have come across in my travels

good

My bad, I did not report the issues to management - was just so disgusted with so many problems, just did not want to go through the hassle.

Incredible experience, beautiful grounds, lovely rooms. A warm & helpful staff went well out of their way to accommodate our large group with an ongoing list of ever-changing details. Coordinating our group from the US, Europe, and the UK was a bit hectic from the States and the staff at the Chateau made things seamless, painless, and more than memorable for our group of 16. I highly recommend this romantic, historic, and serene spot. C'est magnifique!

Restaurant has excellent food with decent service. The evening we had dinner there the restaurant was about half full.

We spent our honeymoon here and had a lovely time. The location is stunning, Great access to the Champagne region and the US war memorials.

TOP FIVE:
1. The Location - Picture you see on the site don't even do the historic setting justice- it's simply stunning. Its about 1.5 hours out of Paris, but you will be transported when you arrive.
2. The Staff- These people care! Aside from the lovely details like having your bed turned down, they were ever present to make the stay fabulous. If you appreciate personal service, look no further
3. The Food- A michelin rated chef did not disappoint with creative elegant dishes, each paired expertly with wines from neighboring regions.
4. The Rooms- Having seen many rooms ( I was the organiser) it was just amazing to see how unique each was with thoughtful design and attention to detail.
5. Champagne Cellar- Do not miss this- the cellar is amazing and a wonderful way celebrate a champagne ending to an unforgettable stay.

Flew to Europe to celebrate our 75 birthdays and 55 years of marriage and Chateau Fere was to be one of the very special parts of our two months travels. It will go down as most disappointing.

While we expected relaxed service, we felt we were ignored far too often. Wait staff passed our table frequently as they seemed to scurry around attending to other guests to our detriment - we arrived at 1930. and left just past 2115. Dinner was just another disappointment.

Was happily upgraded to a nicely arranged suite which at first brush seemed 'luxury.' Room was not air conditioned, floor tiles cracked, furniture and drapes showing age, bed was an innerspring that sank to the center (impossible to sleep). Bath room well appointed, but beautiful ceramic walled shower with four side jets a disaster - water temp stayed for about two minutes, then went to scalding hot which could no longer be adjusted, necessitating leaving shower to continue in the tub. WC floor not clean (appeared to have been half-heartedly mopped).

Then things really started to unravel. Dessert did not arrive for some 30 minutes after we finished the main course. I poured our water twice and the third time, a server happened to be walking by and took over. Was asked at that time if I wanted more wine, to which I replied in the negative. My wife was ready to leave the table due to the long wait, but stayed. The Rhubarb with it's white chocolate was very nice.

The main course, however, took a seemingly long time to arrive. Duck was impecable. Saumon 'half cooked' was exactly as advertised, but had it taken back as it was too underdone for my wife with a request it be fully cooked. It's replacement took an appropriate amount of time to arrive, but a significant portion was still undercooked - the part that was properly done was quite tasty as were the sides.

Thanks

Amazing ancient ruins from the 13th century. The spa closes at 8pm, a little too early for my taste, as well as the dinner took 3 and a half hours! However, I'm American.. definitely don't make plans after dinner! This place is great to relax and enjoy the scenery. Plus, if you miss the spa hours, we had a light up jacuzzi in our bedroom that played music!!!!

Great hotel! Rooms are very large, quiet, and comfortable. With nice bathroom, comfortable bed, in-room safe, and fridge. Grounds have a large ruin that is undergoing some restoration. Spa includes whirlpool, sauna, steam room, and pool.

Top

Matt

Having said all that, still a 4+ star hotel.

The hotel is typically French, it has good sized rooms and is comfortable. It is not modern and could do with some titivating.

We were excited to go to dinner in the highly rated restaurant as the two previous times we were here were over the top. Wait staff most friendly and accommodating on arrival. Before dinner drinks and snacks impeccable. Ordered bottle of water and glass of excellent Bordeaux wine which were poured as one would expect. Salad entree arrived appropriately and was quite good and colorful.

If you are looking for something off the beaten path, truly one-of-a-kind and steeped in history please don't pass this one up!

Chateau de Fere is a wonderful romantic hotel nestled in a very scenic area. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the staff are extremely friendly. Clara was outstanding and went out of her way to make us feel welcome and comfortable.

Stayed in late 1980's and again early 1990's and was blown away by this place. At that time Chateau was a part of Relais et Chateau, now part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

The restaurant is very impressive, with great food options. It is expensive though at Euro70-90 per person for dinner.
