Depuis le changement de propriétaire la cuisine n'est plus aussi inventive. Elle est sans surprise. La mise en bouche quelconque -Gaspacho de tomate- L'entrée peu généreuse et le foie gras trop salé, malgré 3€ de supplément. La composition des plats manque de noblesse (blanc de volaille, magret de canard) tout ça manque d'originalité. Donc le rapport qualité prix n'y est plus, hélas.

C'est petit, on passerait presque à côté et pourtant, lorsqu'on pousse la porte de ce restaurant, on est vite enchanté. L'accueil est toujours chaleureux sans tomber dans l'excès. La cuisine est admirablement bien maîtrisée. Produits frais et de saison. C'est bon,c'est copieux tout en restant sophistiqué (et oui, les deux sont possible). La note est raisonnable pour un gastronomique. La cave propose des vins allant d'un budget raisonnable à des prix très élevés.
Je suis conquise depuis leur ouverture et y retourne avec plaisir chaque année.

Le jeune ménage qui a repris l'enseigne cet été est très agréable, accueillant, rien à redire... sauf que malheureusement pas à la hauteur de leurs prédécesseurs côté cuisine, pas du tout aussi fine.
Pourquoi les anciens ont arrêté, mystère ! Mais quel dommage ! Quatre ans que nous nous y allions de temps en temps, nous nous faisions toujours une telle fête de retrouver à la fois l'accueil, la surprise des menus, l'explosion délicate des saveurs au fil du dîner, la surprise même de ne pas avoir faim en partant alors que les quantités n'avaient rien d'extraordinaire... Un rêve. Mais malheureusement, un rêve qui vient de prendre fin.

I can pretty much echo the previous reviewers. 3 of us had the turbot and the fish was perfect, the batter crisp and light. The Robertie rose very good value and fine with both fish and meat. The flavours in the creme brûlée were piquant and exciting.Actually I did feel that I could have ordered blind and been happy with anything on this menu.

Our first port of call every time we return to our French house. Melanie and Charlie are a warm friendly and charming couple. Charlie's food is superb - inventive and delicious and Melanie is so knowledgable about wine choice and delivers the food with a comprehensive explanation. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Its a treat. ❤️

All round first rate!
A well needed change from the Bergerac staple of traditional dishes, often not at their best. There is French cooking to be found here, however, Charlie (the the chef and owner) is inspired with a modern British flare (he's English and his wife, acting as Maitre D, is French). Our Magret came with roast Gem Lettuce and Watermelon (which was a refreshing and stellar addition) and the Turbot came as Tempura with Fries made of Pickle and Caper flavoured Polenta (a lovely twist on the fish and chips often desired in an area riddled with English).
It is rare that every dish of your meal is as thought out and successful as the starters, especially when the chef insists on a new menu every two months.
In London or Paris I would have expected to pay double and been served by a pretentious waiter and left slightly underfed at the end. Not so here; Charlie's wife is a delight, the wine is reasonable and yet excellent and to top it off, the children get the same food as the adults in smaller portions.
Book ahead as this is unsurprisingly popular with the locals.
They've been open a year and I hope they continue to satisfy their customers for many years to come.

2nd visit in a week! Even better the second time around if that is possible. Must book table in advance. Charming and friendly owners French/English. Great atmosphere. A hidden gem in the heart of old Bergerac.
