The Loire and castles! It is under renovation and though lot of construction structures you can admire this nice castle. Like all these one in the Loire they have been through so many phases that better taking a guide tour.

Didn't go inside as there was a festival in the grounds. We were tasting the local wine instead.

Great views looking out over the city. While I was there in Sept '16 the place was under major renovation. Not a lot to see inside it. Probably a lot of the rooms closed off due to the renovation. Would go back when all renovation is complete.

Stunning exterior to this château. It is very fairy-tale in its appearance. Perched on the hill as it is provides commanding views over the town of Saumur and the river Loire.
The interior houses some fine tapestries and dinnerware, but not much else. It doesn't take more than about 30 minutes to comprehensively 'do' the inside, so a little disappointing.
However, it's not expensive (6€ for adults and the kids went free), so pretty good value.
If you want to buy your child a sword and shield, don't make my mistake of buying in the gift shop - go down into the town where they're literally half the price!

An interesting and historic Château undergoing substantial refurbishment perched high above the town of Saumur with superb views over both the town and the Loire river.
The entry fee of 6 euro reflects that it is a work in progress but it still has much to offer its visitors with interesting exhibits in all of the rooms that have been reopened to the public. Helpful staff, many of whom speak English, are on hand to enhance your visit.
Some areas have disabled access but not all at this time.
Well worth the visit for the views alone.

Lovely chateau, being skilfully restored. Not a huge amount of rooms open, but fabulous views over Saumur and knowledgeable guides with good English.

Great views, though the castle itself was a bit underwelming. It is going through a major restoration/renovation so it should be much improved in the next few years.
