With no doubt that the bookstore has excellent collections especially about fashion and art, as well as the worst owner with crude manners that I've ever seen. However, if you are a local or from EU, you would meet a nice guy, as I found that he's kind to all the French people (All the previous comments here from French guys are positive). Unfortunately, I am not, I am an asian.
My friend and I passed by the bookstore, we found the books behind the window are fabulous and decided to pop in. I am a book artist from London, and the books seem to be huge fortune to me. When I was looking at one of the book, the owner shouted at me:"Get your fingers out of the book and put it back! That is not something you could play around." I could not remember the exact words he used as I am too shocked to hear that. I placed it back immediately and thought probably I did something wrong, so I asked "I am sorry but what's wrong??" He threw me back with NO EXPLANATION but DIRTY WORDS, and pointed at the door yelling at me "LEAVE". I swore that as a pro book artist I treasured every book with all my life and I did not do anything inappropriate. I still have no idea what I should apologize for, even though I did.
Well, while some other french guests are in the store, the owner seems to be very pleasant and patient to help them, but ever since they've left, when we two asian guys were the only ones in the room, he changed to another person at once.
In this case, I strongly recommended this bookstore to EU friends, because the books are really good. But here's the warning for people from the other countries, LEAVE THIS BOOKSHOP ALONE!
One last suggestion for the owner: hang a notice board on your door please, " No entry for tourists from somewhere outside EU", it would definitely save your time. May you have a good day.

Very good collections. But seller is crazy man, very paranoid and strange. I want to show cover to my wife by mobile and he is yell on me!

Hey Comptoir de l'Image - you look like a coll company. Can you tell your drivers NOT to block bus/bike lanes when it's forbidden? Bvd Capucines, 9am. Why? Please help this city reduce of traffic and pollution by prioritising public transport and bicycles!

Very good old bookstore, mostly fashion and photobooks. The owner is very friendly
