Nice and peaceful place to remember the fallen from all nationality. Very poignant.
Remembrance ceremony held every 1st of july at the end of the afternoon.

Op deze begraafplaats is Manfred von Richthofen, de rode baron, een aantal jaren begraven geweest. De resten zijn daarna overgebracht naar Berlijn om tenslotte te eindigen in Wiesbaden in het familiegraf.

Deutscher Soldatenfriedhof für Gefallene der Schlacht an der Somme. Hier ruhen rund 17.000 Soldaten des 1. Weltkriegs.

Very moving. I heard somewhere that the German markers are black, so as to signify shame. Our tour guide took us there but said that many of her tours specifically request to avoid anything to do with German cemeteries. Still very emotional 100 years later.

Dans ce cimetière aux croix de fer peintes en noir reposent 17027 soldats allemands. La dépouille du célèbre aviateur allemand "Le Baron rouge", Manfred von Richthofen, a été inhumée ici de 1920 à 1925. Les stèles qui remplacent les croix de fers sont celles des combattants israélites.
