The marble columns and mosaic floors, green carpets and beautiful gardens, make this a place of worship worth a visit in itself. However, the building has a history few people, even those in the Muslim community, know anything about. It was initially constructed by the French government to honour the French Arabic men who fought and died in the first world war and especially the battle of Verdun in 1916 (that graveyard of humanity). Inside this mosque, there is a memorial site where the names of those first Muslim soldiers who laid down their lives for the allied forces are inscribed into the wall. These men lived and died to defend our freedom just the same as the British or Americans yet little is said about them in mainstream media. Making pilgrimage and visiting places like this to give thanks to the fallen for their sacrifice is a true act of faith and the Grande Mosquée de Paris is where everyone must honour with their presence at least once.

Beautiful, must visit! Reportedly built as a tribute to the French Muslim soldiers who fought against Germany, the Grand Mosque of Paris is majestic with expansive courtyards, water features, gardens and endless tile work. It is a delight for the senses, especially if you visit during the summer - you may even forget you're in a European city at all, as you're transported somewhere much more serene, content, tranquil..

Located near the Natural History Museum, this mosque is beautiful. I came here on June 10, went inside around 1 hour before Maghrib. The prayer room is quite big, luminous, and quite. The restaurant is also very nice. I had couscous with lamb and chicken and it was delicious.

Love the architecture very much. Its beautifully crafted. The gardens inside the mosque reminds me of Spanish-Moroccan places.

Beautiful architecture and amazing that it was gifted by the French government to Muslims for their role in the war.

Amazing place as soon as you walk into the mosque its like you step back into time, very peaceful and tranquil place,i think french government dont pay too much attention to building work as i have noticed quite a lot art work was broken in pieces but not repaired at all.

The tea is really good, if a bit overly sweet, and the pastries are reasonably good as well, but the highlight is definitely the ambience. Sitting in the garden in summer is lovely, even though you're surrounded by smoking parisians

It didn't feel like we were in Paris, it felt so 'foreign' and authentic! The tea and sweets in the restaurant were great, and so was the architecture and beautiful garden/fountain inside the building. Would definitely hi there again and again, though I'm a total atheist and not even Muslim. :-)

Beautiful building, lived the cafe with pastries and mint tea - felt like I was back in Morocco. The Hammam is also worth a visit for a traditional experience.
