Dinner at the Xavier Mathieu restaurant on July 25 was the worst experience that we had during our 3 weeks vacation in France.

Food mediocre. The Michelin star is not deserved. The fried egg with caviar was not fresh (had been fried hours ago). The foie gras tasted like nothing, a complete bore. Fish and meat courses were ok. Selection of cheeses very small and quality below average.

Service was bad and slow, and unfriendly after we had complained about not receiving the first course.

Très bel endroit. Personnel très prévenant

The amuse bouche - for which we had to wait 50 minutes - was a spoon of caviar on a green mousse (we could not tell what it was nor did we understand the explanation because everyone made a point addressing us only in French). The first course was supposed to be a "selection of appetizers". Since our dinner started with the second course, we asked what had happened to the first course (which we had seen being served on other tables). This request was ignored so we asked a second time and received the following explanation: the amuse bouche had been our first course, the selection of appetizers was only served to guests who ordered an aperitif. When I asked the waitress whether she considered the amuse bouche a "selection of appetizers" as offered in the menu, she said "no, but our chef does". No arguing about that, right???

We went for dinner at the restaurant. Excellent one Michelin star restaurant. The pistou soup in perfect. The restaurant accommodated very well our gluten free needs.

Similar experience with the dessert: it was supposed to be "selection of dessert from our trolley". What we did receive was a white chocolate ball filled with a very sour rhubarb cream on a bed of something that looked like crumbled Oreo cookies. We both did not like this dessert, but we were beyond the point of arguing. I assume the kitchen needed to get rid of this particular dessert so they simply served it. Or, the chef considered us not worthy of selecting our own dessert from the trolley. Incroyable! Never had any comparable experience in any of the luxury restaurants I have dined in, worldwide!

The setting is pretentious and uncomfortable. Although situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the Provence, there is no view, the terrace is concrete without green or flowers.

Excellent Michelin-star restaurant with nice outdoor seating area (we had lunch) with a view.

Perfect ...

The most terrible dinner experience!!! Horrible service, they serve you what they deem fit not what you order! Food mediocre! Uncomfortable atmosphere!

We ordered an eight course menu and a bottle of rosé.
