Modern hotel, nicely appointed rooms, though not enough electrical outlets. Good restaurant within the hotel, though independently run.

Well, it's certainly the best in town. There aren't many options in Tarbes, but Le Rex is the best. Friendly staff, over-priced drinks at the bar, and most of the staff know some English. Check out a diner called "Route 66". It's about two blocks away (hotel staff can point you in the right direction), and they have great authentic french salads. Get the "fisherman's salad". They don't speak English at Route 66, but they do have two English menus behind the counter somewhere they can dig out for you.
