He said he thought she'd be OK, and that they don't formally treat kids... so he gave me the address of Hospital 'Enfants A Trousseau which is nearby.

They did a great job stitching me back together after I pierced my upper arm.

They were GREAT about speaking english, they saw her really quickly, took vitals, and a doc came and assessed whether it was serious and whether she needed x-rays.

If you have kids -- pick one of the other places!

I had an emergency surgery at this hospital, a bad cat bite that quickly got infected and needed urgent surgery. They booked me in here at the earliest possible convenience. Considering it was such an unexpected and traumatic experience and I didn't speak much French and was alone I had a very positive experience here. All the doctors and nurses were very kind to me, talking me through the procedure as best they could. The anesthesiologists were really cool young guys as they were numbing my arm they joked they were like George Clooney but free! Another male nurse chatted to me through the surgery as I was conscious which was really nice. Afterwards I was wheeled into a private room and given a meal which wasn't great but hospital food generally isn't.
Word of warning about French hospitals even in Paris is that they generally do not speak English and medical french is a little more challenging than the French learnt at school.
There was a bit of concern that because my surgery was so sudden it would not be covered under my insurance, I was on holiday and my emergency card was in the post in England so it was either going to be almost free or several grand. Luckily the admin were great and when I got my insurance card in the post they took a photocopy and the whole thing ended up only costing me 50 euros because I had stayed overnight in a private room.
The only thing I found kind of irksome was there was virtually no after care, I was sent home with my arm in a sling and told by the doctor that I had to come back and get my dressing changed after two days. When I did this I found a room full of nurses who wouldn't change my dressing because they couldn't be assed. It was the weekend and they were at work but they kept insisting I come back on Monday. I finally found a doctor on his lunch break who very kindly sat down and redressed my bandages in the admin room so it was safe and clean as I was travelling the next day. Honestly after that I was just cleaning and redressing my wounds myself because it was easier than bothering anyone at the hospital. I even cut out my own stitches with a sterlised pair of scissors and tweezers.

If you're an American and speak little to no french, do not go here. I went in for severe abdominal pain. I was ignored for over 5 hours in the urgencies room after i was told the results of the blood test would be ready in 2 hours. Finally was told they would keep me for a couple days and probably operate. (Um, no way). I went to the room to receive intravenous anti biotics and spent the night. My daughter rebooked our flights. The head nurse initially claimed she spoke no English. Throughout the night I was rudely woken up several times with the normal bp, temp, etc.readings, until the final time the head nurse came in and tugged on my IV. I shot awake in pain. She acted as if I had insulted her. I tried to explain that it hurt but she acted as if she didn't understand. I think she took pleasure in hurting me because she looked incredulous every time I expressed pain. I got angry and said she could no longer touch me. She then proceeded to turn off all my IVs and would let no one else help me. I was not allowed to eat so I had the saline to keep me hydrated which was extremely important in my case. She refused to turn it back on. I told her to take out the needle so I could leave and go to another hospital. I was in pain, hungry, thirsty, and nauseous. She left me like that for 6 hours. I finally demanded to speak to the American Embassy. She understood English real good then and tried to comfort me. Another nurse came in and re inserted the IV. I left the hospital AMA shortly thereafter with anti biotics. After that treatment there was no way on earth that I would let them operate on me. BEWARE! her name was Virginea.

Very very good treatment !

I think this is just true of the french healthcare system, absolutely excellent and almost free emergency care and anything else involves alot of waiting, nos and just giving up and looking after yourself. Still very very grateful they saved my finger. Thanks guys! x x x

FYI: THEY DON'T TREAT KIDS HERE. My daughter fell and injured her arm rollerblading nearby -- we brought her here.
