Gîte agréable, mais pas le petit plus que laisse présager le site internet et l'accueil n'était pas au niveau.

Cons:
-Where to begin...The house smells extremely musty, as if it hasn't been lived in for many years. Beware if you have allergies to dust and mold. The previous guests had left a mess of bloody sheets in the washing machine, something the hosts apparently neglected in their sweep of the house. The linens were threadbare and scratchy, which was unfortunate because the blankets looked like they hadn't been washed in years, complete with bodily fluid stains and strange smells. There was mold in the showers and overall the house needed a thorough dusting
-The location is not ideal for accessing most of the bouldering areas. It's about a 20 minute drive from Larchant (Dame Jouanne and L'Elephant boulders); otherwise, you're looking at 30-40 minutes for the northern areas
-The kitchen is minimally stocked with cookware and utensils. We ended up buying an extra pyrex and asking for two additional pots and pans because it would have been impossible to cook for a group otherwise
-The kitchenette takes forever to heat up, and the oven has a rack that doesn't fit. The rack falls off at the most inconvenient times, making a mess of whatever dish you were trying to bake
-When we arrived, the house was ice cold--not a good impression to make when it's such a small gesture to turn on the heat.
-Bizarrely, there are two showers but only one toilet
-The house has no supplies. You have to buy your own toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags, hand soap, etc. etc.

We were not impressed with this place at all. For the price we paid, we could have stayed in a clean, warm hotel and eaten out every night. There are much better gites out there.

Based on the nice reviews on their website, we really wanted to love this place, but honestly it was a letdown. Compared to other gites where we stayed this trip, we found Haras de la Fontaine to be in poor condition and minimally equipped with supplies and amenities. Moreover, beware of the add-on fees: in addition to the daily rate, the host charged us €53 for electricity for 4 days, €40 for linens, €16 for towels, €10 for firewood, and €35 for cleaning. Ugh.
