it's a museum where you can spend a whole day... loads to learn. it covers the history of the area of Bordeaux from prehistory to modern. the videos (for me especially the ones on the ground floor that show the life prehistoric people) are very interesting. it was thursday when i went there and it was not crowded the entire day, like for most of the time i was almost alone in the exhibition hall (of course there were staffs and they were really nice), so the visit was really relaxing.

I have over expected. Because I heard the status of slavery trade in Bordeaux is higher than in Nantes. I expected this museum to show a rich past of Bordeaux. But after I went to the museums of both. I didn't find this one with more displayed evidences and explanations. And the souvenir shop is so small. Even though the roman ruins are good, it is a little bit boring with rare English notes.

A nice museum, going from cave men to modern history. A lot of the explanations are in French only, but the later section is a bit more accessible.

A nice museum with sufficient and interesting content. There is room for improvement in the accessibility for people who don't speak French and in the educational value of the visuals.
Personally, I went there to spend a couple of hours before my train, and I especially appreciated secure lockers.

This musee had an incredible collection of Paleolithic, Neolithic and Roman era artifacts. We have a little travellers French and we try to use it. But the lack of English translation on 95% of exhibits is so fustrating. It's technical French. We tried hard to enjoy seeing the artifacts but basically left after half hour. The staff person said they have English info on exhibits. They have a token gesture to that. Very disappointed.

Interesting exhibitions that range from early stone age to present day. Wonderful selection of ancient Roman stone work and mosaics as well as glass wear and pottery. Very little information in English so it was hard to learn about what was being looked at.

Nice and very well put museum telling the History of Bordeaux from the Paleolithic age to modern times... some people noted that some exhibits are only in french but you can have a good time ...
We liked rhe exhibit about the slave trade from Bordeaux.. sad chapter in human history...

Very interesting permanent exhibition about the slave commerce of Bordeaux. Free entrance on first Sunday of each month.

Interesting museum that showcases the history of the region of Aquitaine and Bordeaux from Ancient Rome to the 20th century. Lots of content. I recommend to visit on the first Sunday of the month if possible when museums in France have free entry.

One of the best museums in a long time and also one of the cheapest. Great value for money! One issue might be that a lot of the information is in French.
