Not sure its the top place in Perpignan to visit, but a really interesting spot. The building is incredible, but there is nothing else to look at.

Sorry to say this as France is a beautiful country but none of us liked Perpignan. The centre of the city is run-down and dirty. The palace is nothin to write home about compared to all the other castles and cathedrals we have visited in this part of France.

The very helpful Tourist Office lady suggested that we visited the palace of the former king of the isle of Majorca. Used to visiting French Chateaux we were expecting something from a royal palace. The outside is an uninteresting stone wall which -we hoped- that would hide something worth seeing. After a walk through a dark hallway (and after paying an entrance fee) you enter the inside of the palace. Well it was actually the same wall, but now from the inside. Some uninteresting rooms with an art exhibition and a chapel that was not worth noticing concluded the visit.

It is a waste of time. The palace did not have any decor not furniture it is just an old ruin.

Must be visited if you are around Perpignan. There are beautiful views and it is nice to see how well conserved the castle is.
