Have eaten here before some years past. Have house in Charolles but unable to visit. La Poste restaurant continues to ‘shine’! Menu at €45, well-considered, balanced & elegant. Excellent wine selection as suggested and wonderful service. Better than remembered in terms of food. M Doucet continues to shine - also look at his bistro ‘Le Bistrot du Quai’ - just opposite La Poste but different! Also well worth a visit!

We stayed here for just one night en route from eastern Switzerland to the Vendée, First impressions were very good, excellent reception and our room was lovely; it was air-conditioned but also had an electric shutter with a door onto a terrace which was pretty with plants, terracotta tiles nicely secluded and furnished with table and chairs. We enquired about the secure parking and they arranged for our car with bikes on the back to be driven off to the garage; this was a little disconcerting but it all worked out fine. The room was clean and well furnished, in a rustic fashion, the bathroom was spotless and the shower good.
Our fear here had been that whilst the room rate was reasonable that the restaurant might be very expensive; however there was a 'Menu Tradionel' which was a 6 or 7 course set meal of mainly local produce at €25 (Sept '11) and was lovely and very filling despite the tendency to Nouvelle Cuisine. More expensive food was available but this suited us very well. All food was well presented and hot where appropriate, the food was described well by the serving staff and tasted as good as it sounded.
There are local eateries to choose from too in Charolles but we had had a long day and were very happy to relax in house. Inclusive Wi-fi available, no actual lounge as far as we could remember but most rooms seem well furnished with tables and chairs. The staff were, without exception, charming and courteous bidding us 'Bonjour' whenever encountered and checking we had slept well. Breakfast was served in a dedicated breakfast room and was in the form of a buffet with plenty of selection and frequently replenished supplies. we would love to return here one day to further explore the area and wouldn't hesitate to book in at La Poste again.
