Restaurant: Food is good, wines could be better. Some evenings service is excellent, some not. Depends strongly on the presence of groups: sometimes groups of 10+ people attract all the attention of the staff and you sit in front of an empty table. reservation recommended.

I have passed by the very old fashioned roadside mountain hotel several times in the last 30 years and always wished to spend a night there. This year we did so and it was a very mixed experience! The hotel makes a good postcard shot from the outside (see my photo) and the room was old fashioned but OK and with a new bathroom. Hovever the staff (the owner and his family) were - even by french standards - as taken from a set of "Fawlty Towers". In the restaurant, it was the stepdaughter who took the orders - logic as she was the only one of the staff who did not speak French (!) or English. This did end up in quite a few misunderstood orders! The owner himself looked as a he had left a bohême life in Paris and was now getting bored in this remote mountain valley, so he spent most of the evening making jokes at (or with) the guests. Very entertaining, but not the place to eat if you are out for a quiet evening after a long days travel. The food was up to standards for a French road-side restaurant. All in all the Hôtel du Buet is an experience out of the ordinary and only for travellers with strong nerves. If you are OK with this, you'll probably be up for quite an experience!

Hôtel familial, vraie ambiance amicale, les serveurs sont en plus d'être sympas, très accommodants. Le restaurant est généreux et succulent. Les enfants sont accueillis à bras ouverts. Si vous avez de la chance, vous croiserez un groupe de chanteurs savoyards s'échauffer la voix à l'apéro. Tout ça au pied des pistes de la poya. Certes ce n'est pas un 5 étoiles, le parquet craque un peu, et les portes grincent, mais ça rajoute du charme.

I stopped in for a coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful, even with a bit of a language barrier.
