Using the internet we found La Bonne Etape during a long holiday in Provence. One of the most appealing features was the restaurant, and with a Michelin star.
The room for us was clean, quick with just enough amenities. Wine, bread and cheese on the balcony after a long drive helped us to relax and enjoy the sounds and aromas of the area.
Now the restaurant. The service was exceptionally friendly and not overbearing. The team in the kitchen quickly showed their skills when the first dish arrived on the table.
The chef accommodated my wife with her request for a slightly more vegetarian meal.
An outstanding meal.
Everything about La Bonne Etape's restaurant outclasses every high-end restaurant that we've been to in the USA.

This is a tremendously unique place, and very much worth a stop for those traveling through the area and looking for a place to rest and enjoy good food, and in doing feel out the texture of the area in food and history, rather than hide themselves away from it.  To twist a quote from a famous Parisian transplant, there is quite a lot of "there there" at La Bonne Etape.

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bonne Etape, a highlight of our 10 day trip to France. We were fortunate to participate in a fabulous cooking class with Jany - highly recommend you partake and organize your trip around a date of one of his class offerings. Jany was an absolute delight to learn from - he was thorough, extraordinarily generous with his knowledge, and effortlessly adapted the cooking techniques and recipes to fit a meal prepared in a home kitchen. His love of preparing a meal went beyond technique and demonstrated the importance and essence of full sensory attention and presence to cooking. Without words, he modeled the essential ingredients of presence and love that comes forward in the best of preparing meals for others. He was casual yet informative in sharing his practice of sourcing high quality ingredients, honoring local sourcing and foraging.

Well done.

Their restaurant is one of my favorites, and I always enjoy a chance to eat there. I've enjoyed a good deal of food in the region from here to Nice, and it is certainly one of the best gastronomic restaurants I have ever eaten at in Provence. Staying here so quickly on the heels of Nice it's easy to compare to it, and, although the area is quite different, I think it's fair to say that the restaurant here represents a very great value.  It is by far less expensive and as good or better in quality, featuring much more in the way of locally sourced produce that gives you a far better sense of the area.  They have impeccable quality in ingredients, perfectly prepared for an ideal introduction or advanced study of the local cuisine.

Our stay was great, the Hotel itself and the restaurant are fantastic! Very friendly personnel and Chef, convenient parking, mid-sized pool - everything was great. Wish we could stay for more than one night.

Just a review of the restaurant, dinner, but I expect the hotel to be equally impressive. Two of us had the main set menu, unbelievably good food. There was one mushroom dish that might be the tastiest food I have ever had. The service was impeccable. All of this comes at a price, but in my opinion worth every Euro. Easily the culinary highlight of our tour of France.

We hope to be back again.

Both hotel and restaurant are immensely comfortable and un-ostentatious, which is quite a contrast to most other high-end places in the region.  Most other hotels of the region tend towards being gaudy, with a surplus of decorations that create a sense of history through a sensory flood. Bright colorful wallpaper, contrasting colors and gold furniture in a pre-revolution style, etc.  This isn't that sort of hotel.  It's a down to earth and comfortable place in true Provencal style.  Simple but utterly luxurious, with an intense natural beauty developed over a long history that money can't fake.

This hotel has been a beautiful and comfortable old favorite of the family for many years.  It's filled with the local history, and the on-site Michelin rated restaurant is a succinct representation of the best cuisine of the area.

His cookbook has just been released - it is beautiful and highly recommend it for the 50+ recipes included. I for one however will need to wait until it comes out in English - can't wait! Bon appetite!
