The cassoulet was delicious but when we were there the restaurant seemed to lack atmosphere.

If you want to try great traditional food this is the best place, just remember to make reservations first or get there early, it's small and it will get full. Delicious!

Our meal was rustic, homey, and satisfying... Just what we were looking for on our first night in Toulouse! A bit pricier than some of the other places in the area offering the same type of food, but still cheaper than what we'd be getting Stateside.

We wanted to try cassoulet while in Toulouse, of course, but the summer heat discouraged us. And though the popular press claims that "La Colombiers" serves the best cassoulet in town, we were reluctant to walk that far (again, the heat!) We found that La Cave Au Cassoulet was closer, had a higher Google rating, and being in a "cave"--a brick Toulousain basement--cool. And we loved it!! The setting was charming, the service was prompt, friendly and cheerfully Gascon, and the cassoulet was everything we hoped: a meaty duck leg, chunks of delicious Toulousain sausage, beans that were perfectly cooked and plenty of delicious sauce. And, even with fois gras for starters, a lovely Madiran to drink and pruneaux armagnac at the end, it was reasonably priced! For a proper regional meal, I recommend La Cave Au Cassoulet highly. (I bet they might even win if they went head to head with La Colombiers.)

What a place! Cozy, old-fashioned and very romantic. The people are friendly and the food is simply amazing. Be sure to get Cassoulet, it's a regional speciality and will become one of your favourite meals (... if you like beans and meat). Must visit!
