This museum was a surprising discovery. A wide range of magnificent art works from the Isenheim alltar-pieces , through works by Holbein and Cranach to Monet, Picasso and Dubuffet displayed in a superb building.
Well worth a visit .

A bit of everything. Religious art, Art, relics and finds from Alsace up the ages to show life in the area. Build itself is an old convent. Main piece is a very nice altarpiece that can be flipped throughout the year too show different messages/images.

13 € for adults is all right for the museum it is, kids under 12 go in for free and get a free iPad Audioguide, adults get a free one for adults too. Beautiful premises in the old Covent of the 13th century. Eclectic but nice modern collection, eclectic but not so impressive collection of impressionism and early 20th century, and of course the must-see Isenheim Altar by Matthias Grünewald...

Beautifully laid out in clean stark white with good trilingual labelling of all items. The museum makes good use of the old convent building. The famous altarpiece and associated church works of early sixteenth century are the stars of the show and get a beautiful display space. Some interesting mediaeval artworks, a few scraps of precious Merovingian art and some provincial Gallo-Roman work, then a nice display of mainly Alsatian artists to the modern day round out an interesting collection. Wine buffs should not miss the small room of eighteenth century winemaking equipment on the lowest level.

It is beautifully renovated (though I haven't seen the previous one) since 2016 January. 13 euro is pricey but it includes free audio guide in many languages. If you like medieval to renaissance painting (and history), this is a must.

Beautifully renovated and human size. Very friendly staff. Very pleasant cafeteria. Amazing art, including the deservingly famous retable.

The altarpiece is similar to another one I have seen but only in the first panel. The other scenes are very interesting. But there is enough other stuff to occupy most of a day there. We were there so long we wound up eating lunch there.

Excellent museum covering many centuries. The masterpiece of Grünner was very fascinating and worth the trip. Fine audio guided tour. Cozy café in the courtyard.

Architecturally beautiful, with a fantastic selection of art from all eras. A concise but enlightened collection in a fantastic setting.
