Okay folks here's the scoop on Chateau Mont-Redon. I have spent many years collecting/reviewing CDP and Mont-Redon falls out somewhere in the middle. Not the greatest but certainly not terrible either. In terms of value it's average. Certainly there is far more interesting CDP if you are willing to look a bit. In fact their neighbor Chateau Maucoil is a hidden gem and Cédric the gentleman in charge of dégustation is an absolute prince of a man. Across the road from Maucoil is Domaine Charvin, a fantastic bare bones family operation. Knock out wine, fairly priced, produced by a vigneron who has that magic touch!

Terence est un amour

My impression, if you are a tourist who knows little about wine and want to see an impressive cave, take a tour, have a canned tasting of some decent CDP, then this is your place. If you really want to learn about the wines of CDP or already have a good backround don't waste your time here. I gave it my best shot and honestly they just flat out sucked. I've been to hundreds of caves over the years both as a professional and as a tourist and only once before have I written a negative review and the vigneron contacted me immediately with a sincere apology. And the poor review I gave the other winery wasn't for rude service or poor quality wine, just a poorly organized tasting by someone who didn't have the knowledge to serve wine for a scheduled tasting at a benchmark wine producer. Enough said!

Don't bother going if you don't speak French. We went with the intention of buying wine, but the staff were so off hand (rude) we walked out. I guess that despite their perfect English, they couldn't be bothered to use it.
In fact, I could have got by in French, if they had bothered talking to us.
Lovely place, wine was very good. Hard to imagine how they could make us feel less welcome though.
Not a place for the tourist!

A wonderful winery visit. Courteous, generous and exceptional service in English. The tour of the production and storage facilities was impressive, as was the ability to purchase old vintages at very reasonable prices direct from the chateau. A highlight of our trip.

So, my personal experience with Chateau Mont-Redon was terrible. I stopped in because I needed some large format bottles for some events I will be hosting in the near future. I knew that Mont-Redon carries older vintages in large format, which can be difficult to find, so I stopped in. I enquired with the gentleman in charge and he waved me to the back of a large room where they had a group of large format bottles on display with no prices or vintages on the bottles. The man disappeared. I then struck up a conversation with a pleasant young woman who knew very little about wine or Mont-Redon and I told her what I was looking for. She went and found the man I orginally spoke to and explained to him that I was interested in purchasing some large format bottles. The man then turned to me and said rudely, "we have many different wines what exactly are you looking for?" I told him, "I'm trying to figure out what you have available for size and vintage with the prices and please don't talk to me as if I'm stupid." I thought this would prompt an apology and some professional behavior, mais non. He handed me a price list and walked out of the room. I left without saying good bye.

L'un de mes vins préférés de châteauneuf. Je le conseille vraiment.
