I dined here on many of my fieldwork visits to Concarneau while writing my book: Researching Literary Tourism. After a visit to L'Amiral, 1 Avenue Pierre Gueguin, Concarneau, France with Paul, we decided to use his photograph of L'Amiral on the front cover of the book. The picture is taken from over on the ramparts of the Ville-Close. We were trying to cover the whole scene from the opening of Simenon's novel, The Yellow Dog, Le Chien jaune. Try the oyster as a starter, and, if they still offer this, the Simenon menu. If you are reading the detective novel whilst you are in this fishing and seaside town do let me know and share your thoughts...

Very unfriendly and arrogant young waitress with snippy comments. (We also speak french and understood everything)
For the Menu Card and food you´ll wait forever, even when there are not so much guest. There are other restaurants existing, we went there.

Lage, Essen und Service waren einfach sehr gut. Preis ist etwas höher, aber durchaus gerechtfertigt. 2 Personen, 4 Gänge Hummermenü für unter 100 € ist gut. 5 Sterne, da es wirklich nichts zu bemängeln gab. Merci

We had a poor experience here: The so-called Admiral is rather a simple soldier. We wanted to have a great night at this renowned venue last night but instead were met by unfriendly service. The food was okay but not at all good or even close to high-class. Prove of the place's attitude was when the staff started to clear our table while some of us were still eating.
