Nice historical hotel. Very overpriced and located on square with nightlife all night. Very noisy

Le luxe attendu des chambres (et avancé par l'hôtel..) n'est pas au rendez-vous : les équipements sont très modeste... surtout en les comparant à d'autres hôtel de même classe (3 étoiles)

Location is central. Just about everything is in walking distance and the room is beautiful.

Such a bad and rude service at the bar that it's not even funny... There's this fat owner/maitre with eyeglasses and ridicolous short pants that makes, with his unkindness, any drink, even a simple pastis, a terrible experience. The whole square is terrible anyway made for low intelligent toursim, and the fat waiter with glasses, acting like a dictator, fits perfectly in the stereotype of why many people around the world think French are assholes.

This is a special place especially the deluxe room where the bull fighters, Picasso and Napoleon stayed... however.... the good years are behind them. The place is not very well maintained, some
of the furniture looked like it was bought in a sales garage from an abandoned crack house. The bed sheets, pillows and bathroom were clean however. The high ceiling, big windows and large but narrow terrasse were the highlights. The service, just like the hotel has seen better days. Two out of the four people who we dealt with one seemed to show respect to us only once they realized we had an expensive room and a flashy car.

The only positive thing I have to say about this hotel is the location!
The hotel is sold on the background of its past visitors and to come for the salon and bar and the romance; however when we were there the bar and the salon were not in use, and were empty the whole time (July!) The outside bar was empty when the rest of the square was lively and packed, probably because of the ridiculous prices! No atmosphere, positively unwelcoming!
We received an almost rude reception on arrival, which set the tone for the rest of the stay. The hotel is dark and unwelcoming in the summer months. The bedroom and bathroom were small (we knew this, so not an issue) and everything was very tired and faded. This can all be accepted as part of the ‘character’, however the bed was so uncomfortable, which cannot be excused in a hotel.
Breakfast is not included and we chose not to eat here due to the price, similar food on offer elsewhere at better value.
I would not recommend at all, if you want location there is a the Hotel Forum in the same square, with a small pool and much better value!

we were looking for a pleasant quiet stay before driving back to London. The hotel is very central and Arles is a charming town to walk around. If you like staying in hotels with some history you could not do better. The staff are charming and were very helpful indeed. We has a large light room at the top of the hotel. Not exactly cheap but worth it. The one time that we ate in the restaurant, the food was excellent.
