One of the most historic buildings in Strasbourg. Dinner was affordable (just under €30 for the "menu Hallebardier" - starter, main dish and dessert) and pretty good (leek salad, sauerkraut with various meats/sausages, plum pie). Lighting was a little harsh and the walls were decorated with visibly low-res prints of old French posters - would've been nice to have cozier lighting and higher-quality decorations. The building itself is very well preserved and it was cool to see the old windows up close. Service was friendly and relatively fast. Overall a good experience if you're visiting Strasbourg and want to try some typical Alsatian food in a historic setting.

Very nice restaurant, we has a set menu of first course, main course and desert for 30 euro. Food was good but not exceptional. Nice staff. Overall a good restaurant.

Make reservations. This place is super popular. Folks like Pope John Paul II, to president Roland Reagan have dined here, need I say more. Oh, if you are vegetarian, this might not be the place for you. Try the meats and sauerkraut plate, good to share between two or three. Pricy but well worth it. If it is good enough for the Pope...

Food OK, but service painfully slow. We waited almost an hour just for starters of seared scallops. Then another long wait for main course of traditional sauerkraut. Kids going crazy waiting for their dish of sausage and chips. Lovely location but need to sort out the kitchen productivity.

Very friendly wait staff. Excellent food. Large menu with many choices of food and drink. Is usually busy but two of us were able to get in without a reservation.

Terrible! Rude waiter, was avoiding to serve us because we didn't speak French and he didn't speak English. The manager was having a meal there at the time and did not bother to assist (although he spoke English). They did not inform us that there was a different menu after 19.00 and brought us a menu with very limited choices. Entrée (cold) took more than 20' to arrive and main course more than 45'. Food was not tasty and was too pricey. Paid €80 for a cold starter to share and two mains +2 bottles of water. Lousy. Wouldn't suggest it!

I was there for lunch / dinner. Service was slow and lacking, waiters didn't pay attention at all. The salmon was actually pretty good, the beef was ok for the price. The escargots were nice, but you can get better just a new meters away. Location is great obviously,
